I’ve always heard “You’ve never been to the Capital?!” The truth is that I never really wanted to go. However, now that we did go, I think I would tell people the same thing… it’s worth going!
We took a week to go there and it was really great. Not just the capital but all the fun activities and the family time.
Day One – Getting there
We always have fun on the way. It was nice that we had a direct flight from PDX to Reagan airport. Then we took a Lyft to the house. Wow! Our driver certainly learned to drive in another country 🙂 We loved the townhouse where we stayed and even got to have our first walk out on the Mall.
Day 2 – Aerospace and a Walk to Lincoln
We decided to start our day off Wright, so we headed over to the Aerospace museum. We walked the whole way and got pretty hot. Because of the construction, we had to go all the way around the building to get in the “back” door. Let’s just say that is a really big building.
It was so cool inside. We started out looking at a whole exhibit about the Wright brothers and then on to other stuff. I had no idea the X-Wing fighter would be there!
We found out that the Treasury is not the White House 😉
Another best day!
Day 3 – Mt Vernon and National Harbor
Best thing today… Seeing Tia Joanna! She met us at George Washington’s house and toured it with us. Very fun ♥️.
Our Uber driver told us that we should go to the “National Harbor”, so on the way back to DC from Mt Vernon we decided to drop in. Good news: No one got sick on the Harbor Wheel!
We headed back to the Mall to check out the American History Museum before they closed. On the walk back to the house, we saw the “back side” of Congress and the Supreme Court.
And just to wrap up another fun day, Liem and I went for a long ride around the Mall ♥️
Of course, we had to get some laughs in with an hour of Jim Gaffigan each night. So fun!
Day 4 – Ford, Bible and Benihanas
We went on a walking tour following a ‘detective’ tracing the steps of the assassination of Lincoln. We took the subway… that was fun. Nice hat Travis!
You would think it would be easier to get a picture of the White House! This was the best we could do today… and yes… one thing for sure… it certainly is WHITE!
After that, we went to the Bible Museum. Didn’t get many photos, but it was really cool. Look! Rocks!
Now, eating at a restaurant is fun… but eating while the cook makes the food right in front of you is very exciting!
And what better way to end a long day than with Pupatello Gelato and a little comedy 🙂
Day 5 – AeroSpace and Museums
So, what do you do after spending one day of the vacation in an AeroSpace museum? Spend another day in an AeroSpace Museum! We headed out of town to the Udvar-Hazy Museum to see the shuttle Discovery and cool jets like this SR-71 Blackbird.
Then we headed back to the mall and walked a bit. We went to the Vietnam Memorial and then got some bad Mexican food. Luckily no one got sick!
Day 6 – Spy Day!
Well, now it was Monday and the Cafe we wanted to try was open again. We all got a yummy breakfast. Then we hopped on the metro and headed to the spy museum.
We had to wait around… so we decided to give the Lyft scooter a try. Check this out!
Headed back to the American History Museum before they closed. Hey, there’s a castle 🙂
When the sun went down, Liem and I headed to try to find the Thomas Jefferson Memorial.
Found it!
Day 7 – Headed home
Every trip is fun… but there is nothing like coming home. We grabbed an Lyft and headed to the Reagan Airport. On takeoff, Mommy got one more checkmark… look at that 5-sided building Let’s just say our pets were happy to see us even if Cosmo tried not to show it ♥️
